Short version: Buddhist Widget is a local-first quote-reading and Home Screen widget app. The optional Pro unlock is a one-time purchase — there is no subscription, no auto-renewal and no recurring charge. A free 7-day trial is computed locally on your device. The app works entirely offline and does not collect any personal data (see our Privacy Policy).
1. Acceptance of These Terms
By downloading, installing or using Buddhist Widget (the "App") from the App Store, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App. These Terms apply together with Apple's standard licensed application end user agreement ("EULA") that governs your use of the App; where these Terms are silent, the standard EULA applies.
2. The Service
Buddhist Widget provides:
- Daily Buddhist quotes with reading, favorites and history (the Library);
- Home Screen widgets with configurable visual themes;
- Theme and style selection;
- Interface languages and content tracks (English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Japanese).
The App is a purely local tool. All quote content ships inside the App bundle; the App has no backend service, no account system and no network capability. Your quotes, favorites, settings and usage records stay on your device and are never transmitted (see our Privacy Policy).
3. Purchase, Trial, and Refunds
- Business model: free download with an optional one-time purchase ("Pro Lifetime Unlock") that permanently unlocks all Pro features (all visual themes, expanded favorites limit). There is no subscription, no auto-renewal and no recurring charge.
- Price: the price shown on the App Store applies (currently US$9.99; local store prices may vary).
- 7-day local trial: a free trial period starts automatically at first launch and lasts 7 days. During the trial, all Pro features are available without purchase. The trial is computed locally on your device based on the first-launch date — it is not an App Store free trial, requires no sign-up, and never triggers any charge.
- Payment: the purchase is charged to your Apple ID and processed entirely by Apple. The developer never receives your payment details.
- Refunds: the Pro unlock is a non-consumable in-app purchase subject to Apple's standard refund policy. Refund requests are made through Apple's "Report a Problem" service, and Apple's refund decision is final.
- Restore purchases: you can restore a previous purchase with the "Restore Purchases" button in the App (Settings → Pro Access), or reinstalling and restoring with the same Apple ID. Purchases are synced by Apple across devices signed in with the same Apple ID; Family Sharing availability follows the App Store listing.
4. Content and Intellectual Property
- The App's code, interface design, icons and documentation are owned by the developer (Linxue) and protected by copyright. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
- Quote content is drawn from public-domain and permissively licensed sources, including SuttaCentral translations (CC0 / public domain dedications), public-domain texts on Wikisource, and public-domain texts from Aozora Bunko. Per-quote source and attribution are shown inside the App on each quote's detail view.
- You may not decompile, reverse engineer, modify or redistribute the App, or use it commercially, except as permitted by applicable law.
- You may share quote images produced by the App's built-in share feature (to Photos, Messages, Mail, etc.) for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not redistribute them commercially or present them as your own product.
5. Disclaimer
- The App is a spiritual and cultural reading tool. All quote content is provided for reading and reflection only and does not constitute religious, medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.
- The App is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind regarding availability, reliability or fitness for a particular purpose.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, including data loss or device issues.
- Interruptions or policy changes of third-party platforms (the App Store, GitHub Pages hosting of these legal pages) may affect some functionality, and are outside the developer's control.
6. Changes to These Terms
The developer may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with an update, you may stop using the App; a previously purchased Pro unlock is not affected unless you request a refund through Apple.
